Day 1 - later afternoon / evening

Our plane eventually left the grip of the Canadian freezing weather and with incredible speed, headed towards the horizon and into the welcoming sky! I was thrilled and excited to know that I was now onboard the plane and finally heading to sunnier and warmer weather!   The last 24 hours had been a nightmare!

Lunch was served and eaten on the plane as well as beverage drank.  The flight was comfortable enough and not too much turbulence occurred while on it.  Surprisingly, time went by fast and around 5:30pm, we had landed in Cancun under sunny conditions, tired but thrilled to be here!

Our transfer was waiting for us and with several other people, we boarded a mini bus for our 30 minute drive to our seafront hotel, the "Riu Caribe" located right here in the heart of Cancun's exclusive hotel zone.   Our trip package had promised us unforgettable vacations therefore I was anxious to see if it would deliver as published.

Being accustomed to extremely larger resorts, resorts with usually five to six structures built one next to the other one on acres and acres of land, I hoped that I wouldn’t be disappointed by the fact that this hotel was different.  To start with, it was only one building and secondly, the land was much smaller in size!   Regardless, I just couldn't wait and see if the pictures I've seen of the place did justice to it!

Upon arrival, this seven story high “u” shape rectangular structure with ends built like pyramids was quite eye appealing with its modern architectural design.  I was much larger in size than anticipated and had 506 guestrooms according to the handed out brochure.  I just couldn’t wait to set foot inside.

We were greeted by the management in a gigantic open concept lounge the size of a gymnasium.  Looking around, we could see way up to the third floor where plants hanged everywhere from the ceiling and balconies.   With palm trees everywhere complete with white marble floors and limestone walls, the decor achieved in giving the place an exotic look convincing me once and for all that I was really here in tropical paradise!

After breezing through the check-in, we thanked the senor and with keys in hand, rapidly followed the bellboy.  Muchas gracias senor!   I just couldn’t wait to practice my Spanish!

We got off the elevators on the 5th floor where our room was located kind of in the middle of the building   So far, I greatly liked what I saw but couldn’t be more thrilled when setting foot into our room!

You'll never believe why!   We had an incredible view of the Caribbean Sea right in front of us.  “Wow, wow, wow” were the words that instantly came into mind!    I knew right away that my holiday here in Riu Caribe would be a fantastic one!

After a quick change of clothes, after all we were dressed with winter clothes and it was getting hot, we rapidly went downstairs and started exploring the grounds.
