Day 4 - afternoon

Temperature:   33 Celsius
Weather:  Blue skies, hazy skies, cloudy periods, hot

The best part about today's tour to Ayutthaya was heading back to Bangkok by another mean of transportation!   And would you like to know which one!   It was none other than by river cruise on the one and only…..Chao Phraya River!    Hip-hip hurray for this!

We were welcomed onboard the "River Sun Cruise" by crew members all lined up, saluting us!      Upon entering, I immediately proceeded to the front of the ship and settled at a table along the window’s edge.   Others soon joined in while Michel sat right across the table from me!

Without being luxurious looking, the small river cruise ship appeared comfortable enough and nicely decorated with floral arrangements along the buffet tables.

And guess what?

Lunch was included onboard and comprised of a hot and cold buffet of delightful oriental and western cuisines.   And no, I didn’t have any trouble finding something to eat!    I had fries and vegetable egg rolls.   :-)

I know, I know!   Junk food!   Better that than nothing though!     Michel was more adventurous than me and ate more of a variety of food with meat.   At least, in addition to my lunch I had colorful desserts to choose from and fresh fruits to devour!   Yummy!

Can’t say that I took my time to eat or, ate like a pig like many of the other travelers because I definitely didn’t want to miss out on anything while the ship cruised down the river!

So, by rapidly eating and of course, without making myself sick in the process, once I finished, I directly went to the open top deck and watched life pass by along the Chao Phraya River!    And yes, Michel and I were the first ones on the top deck!   These habits are hard to loose!  :-)

So here I was today in a foreign country so far away from home watching life pass by before my eyes on the Chao Phraya River.      There was this peacefulness all around, this tranquility where it felt good to be part of the scene.    Plus, there was this nice warm breeze instead of the cold miserable one from back home!   Hehehe!

Of course, being a tourist, I saw beauty in everything!    I saw beauty in the reflection of the shabby old looking houses on the water’s surface, beauty in the fishermen throwing their nets in the polluted river, beauty in the luxurious skyscrapers invading the horizon and beauty in the fascinating landscapes with many Buddhas and Temples!

As we approached Bangkok, more skyscrapers were seen of various shapes and sizes.  Many were luxurious looking, a huge contrast to the shabby looking shacks since many of them were built practically right next to them along the Chao Phraya River.

Several bridges were passed underneath, one of them being the Rama IV Bridge.   The Grand Palace was also seen from the river and Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn which I’ve climbed just 24 hours ago.

And as one might say, all good things must come to an end!    And that’s exactly what happened when my cruise down the Chao Phraya River came to an end exactly two and a half hours later, at 3:30pm to be more precise, the time we arrived at the public pier located right next to our hotel - the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel.

At least I didn’t have very far to walk to!
