Day 30 - early evening

Temperature: 35 Celsius
Weather:  hot

The brochure said "Take a Sunset Cruise down the mighty Zambezi River which feeds into the powerful Victoria Falls!"   While daydreaming about it, it also sounded too good to be missed!   This activity was booked on the spot!

We were picked up from the hotel around 4:00pm and driven for fifteen minutes before arriving along the Zambezi River shore.   Since several people were picked up at other hotels along the way, being the first one out of the mini bus allowed me to be the first one onboard the large pontoon boat!

You know the rest!   By immediately making my way to the front of the boat, I settled at the right side of it, the best place to be for this Sunset River cruise I was quick to tell Michel.   No obstructions in front of me!

The views were awesome.  By totally relaxing and savoring the beauty of the River, the warm breeze could be felt on my skin while the rays of the sun quite soothing on my face.

Hippos were seen hiding along several small islands in the middle of the river.   Their loud grunts and wheezing sounds made it obvious of their aggressiveness and short tempers.

Interestingly, the guide informed us that every year, several hippos are carried down the powerful Victoria Falls to their deaths by the current of the Zambezi River.  I hoped the same fate wouldn't happen to us on this boat cruise but he was quick to reassure us that we weren’t going near the point of no return!

Along the river’s edge, a small crocodile was sighted sun tanning on a dead tree’s trunk.   Many different bird species were also seen flying nearby.   I let the flow of the river take possession of me while enjoying the serenity of the cruise.

Plenty of finger snacks, beer, wine, champagne and soft drinks were served during the course of the cruise.  We were around thirty people in total enjoying this activity!   The boat was large and long; we didn’t feet crowded at all!

And then the moment waited for finally arrived.  In the horizon, the sky became yellow in color while we all watched the sun gradually descend and disappear behind the trees.   Once more, a spectacular African sunset was witnessed by none other than me!

This also meant the end of our Sunset River Cruise.  We were brought back to the Victoria Falls Hotel arriving around 7:00pm.  The evening being still young, we decided to walk over to the neighboring hotel to see what kind of action took place there at night!!   After all, the hotel had a casino!

Too bad for the hippos... Maybe they should start a program to be on the watch out and save the endangered hippos...
