Day 29 - late morning

Temperature: 38 Celsius
Weather:  Blue sky, sunny with few clouds, hot

Duly welcomed us to the Victoria Falls Hotel with open arms!   More than six feet tall, he appeared like a towering giant as he stood right next to us.

Wearing a white colored porter's suit that resembled a safari outfit complete with hat, he sported a big wide smile that showed a huge gap in between his two front teeth!

I immediately placed a Canadian pin on his shining armor right next to his many others, all souvenirs from past guests!   Mine had Ottawa written on it, one he didn’t have making him quite happy and proud to wear it!   Of course, I went on explaining to him that Ottawa was the capital city of Canada and that’s where we lived!

With handshakes and all, he welcomed us once again to the Victoria Falls Hotel, the "Grand Old Lady" which instantly brought us back in time when the British were in power!

Since our room wasn’t ready until later in the day, after all it was only 9:30am, he gave us a map of the huge property and carte blanche to wander around while making ourselves at home.   Our suitcases were placed in a storage room and within minutes, I made my way inside the hotel!

Grand colonial in style, it was a perfect home away from home to enjoy all that Victoria Falls had to offer.   Being well over 100 years old, this grand hotel definitely lived up to its expectations.   It was a step back in time and I definitely felt  as if I lived during that era.

Many photos on the walls showed the late Queen Mother with the young princesses during their visits.   It was a delight just to walk the long corridors, look at the pictures of past guests, beautiful décor, spiral staircases and proportioned rooms.

I rapidly made my way to the gardens and pools and to the scenic views of the Victoria Falls Bridge!   From the distance, we could see the brave ones bungee jumping off the bridge and bounce back into the air!

It was close to 11:00am when Duly came and brought us to our room located on the second floor of this refurbished section of the hotel.  The room was more than adequate; it felt comfortable, clean looking with en suite bathroom.

I knew without a doubt that I had made the right decision in booking our prolonged stay here at the Victoria Falls Hotel…..even though it cost me a bundle!
