Day 14 - early afternoon
Once back in Sorrento from our morning excursion to the Isle of Capri, two mini buses were boarded shortly afterwards where local drivers drove us along the never ending winding roads of the Amalfi Coast!
Sitting right behind the driver with Michel at my side, I was kept on guard as the picturesque scenes kept changing constantly on this roller coaster ride. The landscape for a fact was absolutely incredible as the clear blue waters and amazing resorts were constantly seen along the route. I even imagined how it might feel living here! What an incredible life I'd have! Hehehe!
Well, I do have to admit one thing being that as exciting the ride was along the Amalfi Coast, it was also a hair-raising thriller one that kept me constantly in suspense as the driver continued to drive with ease along the cliffs’ edges. The only thing separating us from the 1000 foot drop below to sea level were small cemented walls of about two to three feet high. But what a view we had!
You’re probably wondering why the motor coach wasn’t used to drive us here. Well, it never would have been able to travel along these narrow roads being way too big! The mini buses could barely make it around the curves so try picturing a whale of a motor bus!
Along the route, a brief stop was made in a viewing area where in the far distance below at sea level, the small touristic village of Positano could be seen. It really stood out as well as its exclusive beach as it sat in an enclave in the hills. It was a wow factor and to think, that’s exactly where we were heading to!
The ride continued and I even had the luxury at one point of sitting in the front seat right next to the driver as Ernesta occasionally changed mini buses to provide information to the other group right in front of our bus! Yeahhhh!
As we approached the small village, the roads became even narrower making me wonder at times if the driver would succeed in turning the bus around the zigzagging curves without any major problems. From where I sat in the mini bus, I could clearly see on many of the buildings’ corners huge scratches made by buses as they tried turning around the deadly curves!
And then we were there, we were in Positano, an artist’s paradise magnificently positioned on the Mediterranean coast!
To be continued…… Monique :-)
