Day 9 - evening

The evening eventually descended upon us!   Earlier in the day, we were told to gather around in the early hours of the evening in one of the hotel's huge ballroom for celebration time!  Yeahhh!

We had a wine and cheese type of celebration as well as champagne and juices to drink and nuts, crackers and chips to eat.  It was kind of a nice surprise where we also toasted to our tour.

Those of us who had travelled in the past with the tour company, each one of us received a small gift as a token of appreciation.   For Michel and I, this being our fourth trip with the tour company (Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and now Italy), well guess what!  We were the only ones with so many!  Unfortunately, this didn’t count as in getting a free future one nor did we receive more gifts!   Ha, ha, ha!

An hour or so was spent in this ballroom where we chatted with one another.  I have to admit though that I just couldn’t resist sneaking out on the terrace just to take several pictures of the landscape at night!

Dinner for the evening was a special all inclusive treat.  We were given a choice of three Italian restaurants to choose from located right here in Baveno and within walking distance from the hotel.   Each one of them had a different special meal!

As for us, we chose to go to restaurant number 2, the Aperto Italian Restaurant because I much preferred their special!   I have to admit though that it was an easy decision because it was either this one which offered more pasta and pizza or the other ones which had fish and meat as their specials!  Plus, the majority had chosen restaurant number 2!

We followed Ernesta down the deserted street stopping twice along the way to drop off the people who had chosen the other restaurants.  Ours was the furthest away, like two blocks!

From the exterior, the restaurant appeared plain looking.  Nothing fancy or luxurious!  However, we were well received by the management and immediately served right away.    I chose to eat the Italian Vegetarian pizza which turned out to be way too much for me to eat all by myself.  Plus I wasn’t that hungry by then having eaten beforehand a lasagna!  Oh well, I did manage to eat two pieces of it though.  After all, it was pizza, Italian pizza!    Coffee and dessert were served afterwards!   As for the coffee, way too strong!  I didn’t drink it!

It was almost 10:00pm when we arrived back at the hotel.  The streets were completely deserted and it was pitch dark as we rapidly walked the short distance!     I was happy that we were walking because after having eaten all that food, this was exactly what I needed!   Exercise!
