Day 9 - afternoon

Having decided to take a stroll along beautiful Lake Maggiore and see what this quaint little town of Baveno had to offer us, this proved to be the best decision I could have made!  You see, five minutes after leaving our hotel and as we were passing in front of the marina located right next to it, a person was loudly shouting "Take a boat tour around Isola Bella and Fishermen's Islands for $35.00 US$ per couple!

I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing!   This guy was selling boat tours!  He was offering me my only opportunity of ever coming close to Isola Bella plus another island going by the name of Fishermen’s Island!   Wow!   Talk about being in the right place at the right time!

Five minutes later, Michel and I were cruising on Lake Maggiore on this small tourist boat in which guess what…… we were the only passengers onboard!   Yeahhhh!    I had the entire boat all to myself to take pictures from every angle of the incredible landscape surrounding me!

It was 3:30pm.  The sun’s light at this time of day made it a photographer’s paradise as shadows reflected beautifully on the calm surface of the lake!   Surrounded by the Alps, it was heaven on earth and I felt terribly lucky to be here!

While passing in front of Fishermen’s Island, the person operating the boat slowly reduced the speed.  I just couldn’t understand why the island had such a name because first of all, I couldn’t see any fishermen plus it looked more like a tourist spot than anything else with its little cafes, terraces and souvenir stalls!   Regardless, Fishermen’s Island had its own charm and uniqueness!

Continuing on, the moment I’ve been waiting for had arrived!  The boat operator slowly reduced the speed and came to a complete halt several meters away from Isola Bella.  As you know, we couldn’t disembark on the island due to the opening hours starting tomorrow but simply being able to admire it from a very short distance made me incredibly happy!

Isola Bella with all of its lovely manicured gardens, beautiful palace, statues and rich emerald green colored trees decorating the grounds….well no need to ask me!  It was totally wonderful plus just looking at the small island’s shadow reflecting perfectly on the clear surface of the lake while in the background stood silently the Alps, it was a perfect picture!

Motors back on, our boat ride slowly continued while Michel and I kept on admiring the beautiful panoramic views.  While passing in front of Fishermen’s Island, we were offered the chance to disembark for an hour or so where little cafes and restaurants were quite inviting!

Without any hesitations, we rapidly accepted.  We couldn’t wait to explore this tiny little island and discover its hidden gems!
