Day 8 - evening

It was 7:30pm when we arrived safe and sound or should I say all in one piece at our lake-side holiday resort on beautiful Lake Maggiore in a small town named Baveno!   We were on the south side of the Alps and this was our home for the next two nights!  Having read so much about this place, I couldn't be happier and excited to be here!

Upon setting eyes on our resort, the Grand Hotel Dino, I was completely blown away by it even though I can’t say the same about its name!  You see, it reminded me of our dog’s name when we were younger!  His name was "Dino"!

You’ll be happy to know that by simply stepping inside the hotel’s luxurious grand entrance hall, it instantly made me forget all about the name!   A big huge multi-colored glass dome dominated the ceiling while projecting lights on the colorful carpet.  Statues, paintings, flowers and antique mahogany furniture decorated the entire room giving it a grand elegant appearance.   Wow!

Keys to our room were given and off we went in separate directions anxiously excited to see if we were given a room facing the lake or the town.  We were warned though that a room with a view of the lake was almost impossible due to conferences and meetings taking place during our stay here!  Oh well, no harm wishing!

Well, the entire group ended up having views of the town except for only one single person who got a room with the view of the lake!   We all envied her!   As for Michel and I, our room was on the second floor right above the front entrance’s doors.

From our balcony, we had a view of the town which was halfway blocked by a huge central air conditioning system installed close by.  It was a big disappointment in a way, but on the other hand, I wasn’t going to be cooped up in the room all day anyway!   Plus there were balconies all around the grounds in the back of the hotel overlooking the lake!    With all of this thinking cheering me up, I quickly closed the balcony's curtains while telling myself that I'll never open them ever again!   Ha, ha, ha!

So, after a quick change of clothes, we quickly left the room and headed out to explore the hallways, souvenir shops, banquet halls and so much more.  In between all of this, we took the time to enjoy a delicious all inclusive dinner in a luxurious banquet room.  We were quite well served and enjoyed every minute of it.

Our little explorations of this huge hotel brought us to lovely areas where at one point, one of the hotel’s managers took the time to give us a private tour of the place!    Having him by our side, we had the luxury of visiting many locked rooms some of which, as he told us, the G8 Summit had taken place in!   Interesting.  These conference rooms were quite stunning!  The huge swimming pool was also visited but was closed for the evening.

I was quite impressed with everything I saw and quite happy to be here!   I have to say though that I greatly enjoyed looking at the jewelry displayed behind locked cabinets along the hallway!  Mentally, I was already preparing a list of what I wanted to buy!

It was 10:00pm when we retreated for the night while wondering what tomorrow held for us!
