Dear Blog,

Now, it was 7:00AM and we had three hours to ourselves.  We made our way back to the ruins, this time under a more relaxed atmosphere.  We were pleased with our choice of the 10:00AM climb to Wayna Picchu because now, we had the luxury of seeing Machu Picchu under an entirely different scene without being rushed.

It was absolutely spectacular.  We were surrounded by beautiful panoramic vistas of the Andes enveloped with all of this fog and clouds.  Our judgment proved to be an excellent one since the fog lasted for another hour during which the people having opted for the early morning climb must have had terrible visibility.

As the sun made its appearance by piercing its sharp yellowish rays through the clouds, the veil was finally lifted above us making way to a beautiful sunny day with deep blue sky and puffy clouds ahead of us.  :-)

During our three hours wait, we took the time to eat our breakfast while sitting on rocks and looking at Wayna Picchu's disappearing acts in front of us, due to the fog.  As we ate, llamas came really close to us hoping for some food.

After our short rest, by curiosity, we followed a quite narrowed path that was just behind us where we ate, leading to the Inca Bridge.  After a good twenty minutes walk and still not having reached the bridge, plus the path being quite narrowed and scary at times due to the 1000 foot drop next to us, we decided to call it quit and headed back.   I will never be able to say that I have seen it in person .... but only in pictures.  :-(

The time was well used.  We walked around Machu Picchu all over again, this time, using different paths that brought us different scenes, different vistas, different ruins and different feelings.

By then it was 9:30AM as we proceeded down the path leading us to the gate, to Wayna Picchu's gate.

My climb was about to START.  I was within steps of starting my climb, steps of finally reaching my goal, my goal of reaching the top, the top of a mountain called WAYNA PICCHU!

Thankful for having goals.

Monique   :-)
