Day 15 - late afternoon

Looking outside the plane's window, the city of Quito appeared quite small from the air as the Andes Mountains seemed to wrap it with its huge shadow. The sky was pretty much grey and miserable looking but what can you expect, when a city is located 2800 meters above sea level.

Well, as I stayed glued to the window and still in deep thoughts from my earlier incident, I said to myself that I should have noticed right away that there was something wrong when the city we had landed two hours earlier wasn’t Quito but actually another one simply because of the landscape being so much different.   Dahhhhh!

I should have noticed that the land was flat, that the sky was blue and that the sun shone high above the sky; all of these quite the opposite from what I was seeing now of Quito!   Also, I should have realized that the pilots didn’t zigzag their way all around the Andes to make a safe landing.  That the Guayaquil landing was a smooth and straight one right out of the text books!  Well, I just didn’t notice it then but now I was seeing all of these differences!

I warned Michel not to mention a word of this to the kids.  Not a word about our little incidence at the Guayaquil Airport; after all, what will they think of us!   They’ll surely think we’re st@@@d or something like that!

It was 4:00pm when we landed at Quito’s International Airport and yes, it was definitely Quito’s airport this time around.  I even asked the stewardess to make sure!  Ha, ha!   We now had four hours to wait before our next flight out to Lima!

A small lunch was eaten and I passed the time by walking around the small airport looking at the stuff they were selling.  Other than that, there wasn’t any exciting thing to do!   I was exhausted and anxious at the same time to arrive in Lima.

Luckily for me, I was able to read and send emails from my iPad in which case, I got in touch with Justin and Patrick in Lima.  Since Patrick and Sabrina had a flight scheduled for this evening, I wished them both a nice flight back home with the hopes of seeing them at Lima’s airport before their departure.  But deep down I knew this wouldn’t happen!  We were arriving in Lima at the same time that they were departing!
