Day 16 (late afternoon)Temperature: 14 degreesWeather: cloudy periods
We were now being driven back to our hotel, back to the Conrad Istanbul Hotel. Looking around me in the bus, everyone had long sad faces and no sound could be heard. We were fast approaching the end of our tour, these being the last miles of it.
Upon arrival at the hotel, thanks were given to Daghan, our tour guide whom we got to know quite well after having travelled with him these past few weeks! He had become more than a tour guide to us; he became a very good friend, a very good Turkish friend!
Let's not forget Harun, our very good driver whom without his excellent driving skills, our tour would not have been made possible. After all, we had travelled 3,500 Km throughout Turkey without any incidents.
And for last, goodbyes were said to all our friends, friends from all over the world whom we got to know and enjoyed their presences quite well throughout this tour. Most of the people were leaving tomorrow morning for their journeys back to their countries whereas Michel and I were ones of a few staying an extra day in Turkey!
As for Aussie Rosie and our picture taking contest, in total she had taken 10,000 pictures whereas me, 14,000! Hahaha So, guess who the winner was!
Looking at my watch, it was 5:00pm when we all went our very own separate ways while thinking that we’ll never see each other again! In a way, I was glad to be staying an extra day here in Istanbul because it allowed Michel and me to still search for some more "Treasures of Turkey"! Well, me anyway! Hahaha
This evening, candles lights were everywhere in the hotel’s entrance hall, lounge and restaurants! The place looked absolutely beautiful and romantic in semi-darkness! I later found the reason behind this. This evening was “Earth Hour”, a global event held annually on the last Saturday of March from 8:30pm to 9:30pm local time. Of all places in the world to be for this event, I just happened to be in Turkey!
It was a nice way to end my tour! Monique :-)
