==============================

My journey continued though hills and towns before following the breathtaking Maeander River valley so full of twists and turns that I was flabbergasted by the beauty of it as much as the horrific ride.

Up a very steep hill, that's where we were heading, heading to the very top of it, heading towards a modest stone House of the Virgin Mary where according to confirmed facts of the historical scriptures, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ spent the last years of her life here.   The site was discovered only in the 19th century.

Today, part of the structure has been rebuilt upon the original foundations that have been determined to date as of the 1st century.  Another part of the structure is as of the 7th century and the last restoration took place in 1951.

It was a moment of silence as I stepped inside the structure.  No pictures were allowed.  I felt privileged to be here.  From the outside, Daghan pointed out the original structure rocks which were quite visible next to the restoration ones due to the color of them.

Not too far, a reconstructed fountain made out of stones where spring water flowed was probably where the Blessed Virgin Mary used to take her water from.  The entire area was a shrine, a shrine known as the Meryemana Kultur Parki where pilgrimage is done every year.   Turkish soldiers were on site guarding the area.

On a stoned wall, people left behind Kleenexes with handwritten requests to the Virgin Mary for cures and well-being.  The entire area was enormously emotional!   I left my very own request and purchased a small bottle of the Virgin’s Mary Spring Water.
