Day 7 (afternoon)

Temperature:  20 degrees
Weather:  blue sky, much warmer
============================

We were now in a land that fairy tales are made from.  We were in a valley surrounded with fairy-chimneys landscape or whatever your imagination dictated you!  I'll let you be the judge!  Hmmm.....no comments here!   I was ecstatic as we were given a few hours to explore the grounds, wander around where one can go absolutely wild and crazy over here!  As for Michel, he was in heaven once again!  He had volcanic-rocks to climb!

Without wasting any minutes, we hastily went in the direction of the highest wind-eroded volcanic rocks.  By following the trail, the top was eventually reached where a spectacular panoramic view of all these rocks formations were all around us.  Was it for real the land that I was seeing?   All of these lunar landscapes, fairy-chimneys rock formations…..the powers of Mother Nature right in front of me!  Unbelievable, absolutely astonishing, but real!

The weather was on our side.  It was much warmer and the sky, a wonderful blue color.  A perfect afternoon to be hiking and rock climbing for that matter!  Some of these rocks had a mushroom shape formation which by slowly and prudently climbing it, I was able to make it to the top….without even falling.   These were the easy ones.  Michel, of course, went for the more difficult ones!

A lot of these fairy-chimney rock formations had been dwellings centuries ago and had carved openings and holes in them.   Never a dull moment, Michel had to explore these rooms where curiosity had the best of him.  Once inside the huge rocks, he had to climb on steep carved steps, tunnels had to be crawled and passages walked into before eventually reaching the very top opening of these gigantic volcanic-rocks.

Standing from the ground, I could easily see Michel’s small little head appearing way, way up from above me….a good four story high…. through the holes of the rock-carved dwellings whereas himself, he could see tiny little me way, way down where I stood!  Luckily, he had his pocket sized camera to take pictures of me looking lost in this fantasy land whereas I had mine in hand to do the same way above me!  We were taking pictures of one another!

Back on the ground, our fun continued as other various volcanic-rocks shapes were inspected, climbed and admired for their stunning uniqueness.  Some of them still had ancient hand painted scenes of Christianity.  Their colors were still quite visible.

After almost two hours of incredible beauty and views, from the very top of huge volcanic-rock formations, I stood still for a moment and contemplated all of this surreal majestic land in front of me where in a way, fantasies do come true!  I was right here in the middle of it all and living every moment of it!
