Once departing the Botanical Garden and with the help of our GPS guiding us, Michel drove the car in busy Montreal while I glanced all around me.   After a good half an hour drive, thinking that I might have wrongly programmed the destination in the electronic device, a mountain was finally spotted and up we went, way up the mountain's road thanking one more time our dear GPS.   And to think that I was just about to throw it out the window!

Being the city’s most enduring symbol, Mont Royal, a mountain right in the middle of Montreal’s Island, is the highest spot in the city.  It also acts as a natural landmark and way to orient yourself in Montreal, but you have to find the mountain first!

After paying the parking fee at the park’s entrance, Michel and I headed towards one of several hiking paths that lead us way up to the summit of Mont Royal where we were rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of the city below.  It was absolutely breathtaking.   The summit also had a belvedere and a semicircular plaza where a crowd had already gathered, enjoying the view or simply relaxing in the Chalet where refreshments were sold.

We then hiked a 2km trail that circled this beautiful and large park all around the mountain’s summit in which along the way we passed right next to Mont Royal's very large cross.  It was erected in 1924 and stands 31.4 meters high and is lighted every night.

After an enjoyable time, it was 3:00pm by the time Michel and I made it back to our parked car and headed towards our next destination!
