Dear Blog,

Other beautiful views that the Citadel offered was the temple of Hercules.  Yes, Hercules, the high and mighty immortal Hercules as the song went!  What a surprise to learn that he really existed as for myself, I always thought of him as being a cartoon character!

Being larger than any temple that ever existed in the Roman era, the temple of Hercules was completed in 166 AD.  Today, even though much of the structure has disappeared, the outline and the few surviving columns provided me with a breathtaking view.

So, here I was standing right in front of the temple of Hercules which stood all high and mighty and powerful above the hill as if trying to reach the sky, trying to reach the gods with its towering columns.

As I studied in details the temple's ruins, in its background, darkness was enveloping the horizon.  The sky which had been previously grey was now turning quite dark and extremely strong winds were pushing the clouds in rapid motion.  It did look as if a hurricane was coming our way or was it simply the gods being angry at us for having stepped foot on its territory!  Regardless, the sky was full of commotion with ever changing colours being created by the force of nature. Quite a spectacle to see in the coldness of this all!

Since no one seemed alerted of the fast approaching storm or whatever was coming our way, it was probably a common thing to see in the winter time on a rainy miserable windy cold day.  As for me, it was the high and mighty Hercules showing off his powers!

Thankful for the temple of Hercules!
