Where I stayed
Hwy # 60 onto Hwy #93 is almost a straight line from Phoenix to Las Vegas and it is a long drive through wilderness country! We have driven it several times and quite enjoy the variety of geology and vegetation along this route. Until you are approaching Kingman there is virtually no habitation after leaving Wickenburg. There are few points of interest, just miles and miles of rugged landscape between the Buckskin and Hualapai Mountains (between #93 and Lake Havasu to the west) and the Aquarius and Weaver Mtns to the east. Wikieup, the one small community along the way, does have a restaurant that features homemade pies although we have never stopped to sample them. I imagine this highway is much busier in the summer months but it is pleasant and relaxed driving this time of year.
This was our first trip across the new bridge at the Hoover Dam. Don thinks it was a little disappointing as from the driver perspective it was just another bridge with high sides and that restricted high profile vehicles to the inner lane due to the possibility of strong winds. I did manage one shot of the dam - if you look close at the bottom of the picture of the Colorado Gorge!
Once across the bridge the air became much dustier as we approached Henderson. This is a usual occurrence as the wind off the Mohave blows much of the time in the valley along Hwy #95. And of course our first glimpse of Las Vegas is shrouded in a cloud of smog and dust!
Our destination tonight is the RV Park at Sam's town after settling in and having dinner we enjoyed the light show at the Casino.
