Today was pack-up and move day.  We traveled west and north to Tribune Kansas, our new home for the next week.  I am told that Greeley County is one of the top producers of hard red wheat in North America.  If I thought the fields were large in Oklahoma, they were small compared to the 360 degree flat horizon that I see here in northwest Kansas.  It is nothing for a single field to be several hundred acres and Don tells me that it is easy to get 'lost' at night in this vast space.  I'm hoping that he will soon be able to add his perspective to the blog as I am sure it loses impact in my retelling.

Our home now is in 'bald prairie' on the edge of the town of Tribune, across the highway from the elevator.  All day long the grain trucks move past 'my front door' so it can be very dusty.  The ground here is also covered with 'stickers' - small hard balls with thorns - that must be the seedpod of a crawly cactus-like plant.  They adhere to everything and really hurt is stepped on in sock feet.  Shoes are checked regularly for adherents and left at the door.  I even dug out hard soled 'winter' shoes and stopped wearing my softer soled running shoes for this week!

Earlier in the week, we overloaded one of the circuits when Shelley plugged in the roaster oven with the evening meal.  It took a call back to the dealer in Calgary AB to sort out the problem that resulted.  As a result, when we discovered that nothing worked when we set up camp tonight, we panicked.  A hour later, after checking everything we could think of we made a call to the FMCA Roadside service and the first thing they suggested was to check the battery shut-off button.  Sure enough, the button was toggled the wrong way and  after clicking the button, voila, everything worked!   It appears that my good Samaritan deed - cold drinks for all the guys who arrived when we did, resulted in someone leaning against the control panel at the door and accidentally tripping that switch.  Live and learn!
