After many stressed days, Don got word late last week that he was hired for a harvest excursion.  Although we haven't said a lot about it, the research and phone calls focused on this venture have consumed a lot of his (our) time since we got back to Alberta.  When we first met, working the western harvest for a season was one of his dreams - now he will do so starting in Oklahoma and work north back into Alberta.  Our trip to Lethbridge and excursion into the fields, where they were finishing spring planting and we met Ben, paid off.

In preparation for the possibility of being successful in this quest, we have been getting service on the coach and have removed a couch in order to install a desk to better accommodate our needs.  I'll be glad when we can settle into a routine again!

This harvest company is one of the largest harvest excursions to make the trek from Alberta and has been doing so for approximately 40 years.  As I understand it, Ben and other family members started harvesting in Montana and over the years kept adding more customers further and further south.  By starting in Oklahoma the excursion can move directly from seeding their home crops to harvesting crops in the south without missing a beat.  Gerald, Ben's son and a partner in this business, is responsible for this harvest excursion and has been working the season since he was fourteen, building built his own customer list and following over the years.  Tonight we are parked in the farm yard along with some of the vehicles making the trek in preparation for an early start in the morning.

Part of the adventure is parting company, for now, from our new friends - Fred and Joan who had hoped we would travel east them and Vern and Shirley who we hope to see again in the fall.  Safe travels as each of you go on your way.
For the harvest excursion I am starting a new "chapter", so you may need to go back to the main page or dashboard to find the next entry.
