Shortly after we got back on the road this morning we received a call from Fred and Joan, friends whom we have been trying to connect with all winter.  It turns out we have been in the same park for the last two nights!  We planned to meet in St. George and because they were ahead of us they started checking for parks only to find that most are already full!
In the end, the three rigs that are now traveling together found space in a park (?) just out of St. George.  It seems that this site started out with good plans, ended up selling some of the lots and now the developer, a new investor/manager (?) and these site owners are all involved.  Some sites are vacant but not available, some are in rough shape but all have services so we decided to book for three nights until some of the weekend visitors head home and the pressure is off the parks.  Because Salt Lake City and northern Utah received a considerable amount of snow today, snowbirds are delaying the trip north adding to the congestion.  The people we talked with really seem to be learning the ropes but were quite accommodating.  Once we were set up we decided that the view out our window made up for the confusion and the sites really are quite adequate.
The trip up started out through more desert - real desert in places as I spotted sand dunes in one place.  The wind was gusty in places but not a big problem.  As we crossed the corner of Arizona and moved into Utah, the landscape changed drastically and we saw our first snow topped mountains.  At one point we seemed to be driving towards a solid wall of rock but discovered that we had twelve miles of mountain slopes through the Virgin River Gorge.  A beautiful drive and we are told that it is even more breathtaking when you are traveling south.   St George is nestled in amongst the rocks and is within an easy drive of the National Parks in the area.  Lots to explore.
