The sun is shining and it's warm today - high 70's. The first day we can go without jackets. We head back to the historic district for the Spanish Quarter interpretative centre and have fun watching some school children explore the site. All grade 4 students in Florida study state history and many of them visit St. Augustine as part of the curriculum. We watched a group of grade two students - probably from a private school. Then on to the Fort - Castillo de San Marcos - the oldest masonry defensive structure in North America. After Don had examined every nook and cranny we headed back to the Spanish Quarter to use our discount tickets for a beer at the 'old tavern'. At this point we hadn't checked out the beach area yet so decided to go out to Fort Matanzas, another national historic site south of St Augustine. This provided us with an opportunity to check out Crescent Beach just at sunset.
