Last night the temperatures dropped into the low twenties or below and today there was a wind off the water that kept the daytime temperatures cold as well. This afternoon we donned several layers of clothing and headed off to explore the nature trails in the park. Winter in a Georgia coastal forest is quite an experience! The palmetto leaves rustle and branches snap in the cold. Little wildlife is in evidence and this may have been a good thing. We are told that during the warmer months mosquitoes are a major problem! We did see a Downy Woodpecker, several house wrens and tracks of bobcat, raccoon and opossum in the mud of one of the salt flat (signage helped us identify them!) A small detour on our return to the campsite doubled the length of the tour. Don's knees were complaining! These state parks have been great places to stay.
