Don can't leave the harvesting behind! We're off to join the crew in Great Falls Montana! I'm not too excited about this as it means we can't leave for our winter trip south as early, but I like the Great Falls area so it's a mixed feeling.
We stopped in Calgary to meet Dave, Lisa and McKenzie for breakfast at Cora's and then headed south along Hwy 2. At Fort McLeod we continued to head south, staying on Hwy 2 until we came to the road across to the St. Mary's Reservoir. Don wanted to check out the crops in the area.
We had planned to stay at the farm in Welling for the night but we pulled into the yard at the elevators in McGrath about 1:30 and Don decided it was too early to stop at the farm and decided to head for Great Falls instead. I had planned to do the refrigerator check while at the farm so we scurried to make sure all the vegetables were in a 'processed' state - cooked and made into salads - and by 3pm we were back on the road heading for the border crossing at Del Bonita where Don picked up his work visa.
We phoned ahead to let them know we were coming and Shelley had canceled our spot as they didn't expect us for the evening but was able to get an alternate for us. The crew had just arrived from Colorado and were out setting up machinery ready for the morning.
It was a long day but by coming ahead Don will start with the crew tomorrow and not miss a day. I'd forgotten how noisy this park is - it's next to a busy intersection at the bottom of a hill - but we'll get used to it! Otherwise we have a good spot with some shade.
