All the way to Phoenix to see the Senators!  The Senators came to Phoenix to play the Coyotes on their four game road trip March 8th -   and they won 4 to 2!  It was the only game they did win on their road trip.  I think we can claim a large part of the credit for their turn around as we were there to give encouragement and cheer them on.  Or maybe I should say, we went to win brownie points with Lisa, my daughter-in law, who is a very serious Sens fan.  And wouldn't you know it, even better news, they have been winning all their games since.  That is until today, Sunday March 16th when the Senators  ran into a 'hurricane' in Carolina.
A hockey game at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale (Phoenix), AZ is always fun.  This arena is located right beside the Phoenix Stadium where the Super Bowl was held this year.  Scott treated us to great seats in the lower section so that I wouldn't get a nose bleed.  The arena is slightly smaller than Scotia Place in Ottawa but offers free parking, very easy access into the arena and a walk through a metal detector.   There is something civilized about going to a hockey game in 75 degree weather when you don't have to freeze your ears coming and going from the parking lot.  It was also very noticeable how quickly everyone could leave the arena after the game and be out of the parking area and on their way within 10-15 minutes.  They know how to manage huge volumes of traffic very effectively down here.
Because of the ease of getting into the arena, people tend to not show up until very close to the start of the game.  Ten minutes before the game I thought that the arena would only be half full for the game but by start time the arena was easily 8o percent full.  Glad to report it was not hard to find a fair number of Ottawa fans with their Sens jerseys.
The Coyotes also have a very attractive and somewhat briefly clad group of cheerleaders that performed between 2nd and 3rd period.  Unfortunately I didn't seem to hold the camera steady enough a good photo of their performance.
Now if I can just talk Scott into getting some tickets to a Sun's basketball game!  Or maybe to see one of the Baseball teams that are in spring train in the Phoenix area.
