Ok, so we arrive at the train station aprox. 2PM after a rather pleasant train ride. We get struck by a wall of heat and dust at the entrance of the city. The air as well is thick warm city air.. Not the best impression so far. Our plan is to catch the first taxi we see and get out to our resort as my stomach and head are not feeling to good.. 38KM further south by the river we arrive to the most luxurios place we have stayed yet "Vedic Resort" is the name. Nice green trees in the garden with a freakin SWIMMING POOL :D Oh yeah thats just what we need! The service is great and we feel like we have met our scantuary place in India. The rest of the day goes without much activity as we lay in the hammocks and recover from the famos "Delhi Belly".
Day 2 - 16/9 - Thrissur
Wakeup call is my stomach crying for a go at our nice porcelin toilet :/ Not really a good start, but atleast we dont have to (sitte paa huk(scwatt)) in a muddy hole in the ground :)
. We notice something that looks like a big machine in the water so we go to investigate... It turns out to be some kind of fishing machine. With a frame buildt in wood and laced with steel wire, it has 4 brances covering a square in the water. On these 4 branches a big net (5x5m) is laying on the bottom of the river. When we start to pull the rope the whole thing comes out of the water and catches whatever swims over it. I ask the guy if has buildt this himself and he smiles and nodds in the Indian way (witch is shaking his head back and forth as a NO in Norway).. I get really impressed by his handywork and call it a great work of engineering! Really impressing stuff. Rest of the day goes by eating immodium, paracet and Care for the Soul :) We were only going to stay 1 night here, but as Atle also has gotten a fever, we decide to stay one more night just to completly recover!
Day 3 - 17/9 - Thrissur
The staff at our resort notice that we are not eating to much and insted of curry for breakfast ,wich is a common thing, we get a nice plate of fresh fruit :) This is great and really good for our messed up stomach's. Chilling in the hammocks and swimming in the pool, they ask us if we would like to take a boat ride up the river and do some sightseeing by water
. Since we haven't really seen anything the time we have spendt at the resort we gladly accept the offer. Very pleasent ride with probally over a hundred of these fishing machines. We ride close by the banks and see the locals runnning out to look at our boat. They smile and wave and when we wave back they cheer and laugh :) Almost as if they have never seen a white person before and who knows maybe they havent! Really nice to see them so happy. Makes me think about how we act at home and how dependent we are on materialistic stuff with doesn't make us any happier... We get back and since there really is no one there but us, the manager tells us just to relax and that we can stay the night for free!?! Very nice of him and as we are not feeling our best, we accept. Later on we get to borrow 2 bamboo fishing rods and try our luck with a few prawns :D No fish but I got a big crab!! Looks like a bluecrab, but alot more buff..
