Monday we enjoyed a brief overnight stop at Hungary's famous resort area around Lake Balaton. The rain sent us dashing for cover during an evening stroll along the beach. Our shelter took the form of a cozy lakeside restaurant with plenty of hearty fare and cold beer. Sipping herbal liquers after dinner seems to be the thing to do in these parts. It certainly helps in digesting one's goulash. I think my favorite of the digestifs was the tasty "Unicum Zwack".
Here in Salzburg, we of course signed up for a Sound of Music Tour. It was every bit as cheesy as anticipated, but there was the unexpected added bonus of seeing some of the gorgeous lake and mountain scenery outside of the city, as well as a lovely village called Mondsee. Even though Byron has never seen the movie, he was a great sport about the whole thing. I think he was suprised and mortified that I not only knew most of the words to "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria", but I also sang my heart out along with the rest of our keener bus-mates.
