We got ourselves good and lost trying to find our way out of Budapest, and the driving-related adventures continued when we reached the quaint town of Szentendre in the Danube Bend. We accidentally drove up a narrow, winding pedestrian street - must have missed a Hungarian warning sign that we did not understand. We actually put a nice little scrape in the rental car as we tried to navigate a tight turn on a very steep grade with the stick shift, disgruntled German tourists shaking their heads at us all the while. WeŽll see how much that mistake costs us when we return the car. Funny how we went to so much effort to remain scratch-free back in Prague, only to end up side-swiping a silly little curbside post.
As we were leaving Szentendre in the morning, I noticed quite a few locals carrying lovely market baskets over their arms, all headed in the same direction. One early bird was already on his way home, green onions and brightly colored blooms hanging over the edge of his basket. Somehow, I can't quite picture any North American man I know being caught dead walking in public with a gingham-lined market basket full of flowers!
