Where I stayed
Barmera waterfront
As it rained all night I have the day off as we don't work in the rain or if the fruit is too wet or too cold (over 13oC is the target). We decided even though it was still raining to get out of town and see what else the river lands has to offer. We headed eastwards towards the Renmark, Berri, Loxton triangle and pulled into Kingston-on-Murray and went along to Banrock Station to view the vineyards, marshlands and the huge conservation park that Hardy's has put together since 1994. The track kept on going and going which annoyed me like crazy until the building finally came into view perched on top of the hill.
We headed in to discover the place was basically a restaurant and function place with a bar all surrounded by the conservation centre, river, lakes etc and 5,000 acres of vines. We took a walk out to the closest bird hide and had a good look about where the Cabinet Sauvignon grapes were growing before heading back for a little wine tasting.
We drove onto Barmera after a few tasting glasses and drove down to Lake Bonney to view the trees growing well away for the banks and in the water.
As the rain still continued we decided to camp in Barmera and hopefully use the library tomorrow.
