Otavalo is an Andean market town in the northern highlands. The Otavalan people wear traditional clothing and take a lot of pride in their appearance. The town has a really nice feel to it, very safe and friendly and it's a shame we only had a day here. The countryside is very pretty with green patchwork fields creeping
up the slopes of the mountains and volcanoes that surround Otavalo. We joined an American couple from our hostel and did the four hour hike around Cuicocha Lake, a dark lake enclosed in a volcanic crater. When the clouds cleared we could see the top of Volcan Cotacachi which was covered in snow.
