We actually stayed in a town south of Colombo called Mount Lavinia and didn't give Colombo much time but we did get to the Mueseum in which was well worth the time and effort to get there. Mount Lavinia was a nice introduction to Sri Lanka quite easy going and had the Lion Pub that introduced us to great local food and Lion beer. From there we hopped a train to Galle, originally a colonial Dutch fort town. Our accomodation in Galle was a homestay named the Beach house though it wasn't near the beach but it provided all the amenities of other places we stayed and more. The food seemed to get better as we went farther south. Spicy!
