Kochi our last Indian destination1 We arrived with Greedy and Anya, a new Swiss friend, after spending an entire night in a bus...not a sleeper bus..sitting up! Won't do that again...actually I'm the only one who slept out of the four of us. After taking a ferry and walking into Fort Kochi we found a 'suite' with three rooms and a common sitting area. It was great!
Mike, Greedy and Anya headed off to Cherai beach the next day while I tried out a cooking course and learned to make some awesome fish curry with tamrind, veggies and coconut also learned to cook up some chapatis. I liked it so much I decided to try another course. I learned to make some masala dosa...like a giant crispy crepe filled with potato and veggies in a spicy curry sauce. Mike, Greedy and I also checked out some small local restaurants and tried stuff like Idli, Puri and Uttapam...all Indian breakfast stuff.
Kochi itself is an off mix of catholic churches, an old Jewish community with a synagogue and huge fishing nets that originated in China (though I think now they are there more for the tourists than to actually catch fish). It's a fairly touristy town and they have traditional dance, Kathakali, dance performances...Mike and Greedy and Iwent to see one but I think Mike found the hour rather long though the make up was cool.
Our last days with Greedy. Mike and I are going to miss him. Mike had a buddy to hangout with and I had an extra person to talk to. Hope all is well Greedy!
