Mike's Entry

We had a great Hotel room with a stained glass window and a sitting area outside our room and a large doublebed. You say "A doublebed what's so great about that?" Well in India double rooms are usually two single beds. You say "So" again. Well Mo downloaded books from the net onto her iPod, we put in a splitter hook up 2 sets of headphones and listen to books when we go to bed. Our electronic sleeping pill as we fondly call it. "So" I don't have to rearrange the furniture so our headphones reach. Udaipur is also considered a very romantic city with great views of lake with a couple of Palaces in it where the wealthy and not so wealthy get married here. Big marriage parades with the man usually on a white stallion. A brass band leading the parade friends and family following the bride and groom. A generator cart feeding electricity to bright lights being carried by people on either side of the procession. Fireworks going off every night for the receptions going on. It would inspire the romantic side in most people and the two of us don't need much to get romantically inspired. Another reason to have a nice big bed.

We got in some long walks to a hill great views over looking Udaipur. Went sight seeing including the palace museum which if you like good museums is a must see. Some great local crafts including local specialties of marble carving, great camel leather work and minature water colour paintings. Met some great locals that I'll leave Mo to tell you about in her entry. Ate at some fantastic restaurants and many showed the Octopussy movie. Mo wanted to go to see the movie once before we left Udaipur but we never did make it. Maureen said city reminded her a bit of Victoria. WelI I do know one couple from Kitimat that went to Victoria to get married.

Mo's Entry
Ah Udaipur...a white marble fairytale palace rising up from the middle of the lake..like Mike said...very romantaic. Alot of James Bond's Octopussy was filmed in the the palace.

One of the best things to happen here was being invited to our waiter Madhu's home. He lives with his wife in one windowless room, spotlessly clean, with a dirt floor.  They have no furniture and keep all thier possession in one cupboard and two suitcases.  They cook their meals on a gas burner, water is kept in a bucket and they share a bathroom with other people in their 'havelli' (enclosed living area). Yet they wanted us to come and share their food. he invited us one moring for chai and then wanted us back so they could feed us breakfast.  We got a cooking lesson in stuffed parathas...now I'm a parathas addict and look for thm everywhere I can.

We also wanted to take pictures of them and they were delighted because they don't have a camera.  We took pictures the first day, had them developed and then gave Madhu the pictures.  The second day we were shooed out of the room while his wife opended her suitcase and took out her best sari and dressed in it for me to take pictures of her.  They seemed happy and we felt very lucky.
