We were supposed to be in Paris by 2pm!!

The day started off with one last tram ride into Amsterdam Centraal to catch a direct train in Paris. Unfortunately.. we neglected to reserve our seats prior to departure.. so we were given two options: 1. take a hispeed train at a cost of 80 euros each on top of our eurail pass.. or 2. take four separate trains with a total duration time of 9 hours 27 minutes. We took option number 2!

When Andrew and I were planning the itiniary for this trip we had Belgium in our sights.. great beer.. great chocolate.. but to include it would make our stay in Paris very short.. which just isn't feasible. So we decided we would skip Belgium..

Well.. our first leg was to Antwerp in Belgium. We were only there a little less than an hour.. but we got a few shots in. Nothing really noteworthy.. but there a couple of photos there to give you an idea anyways.

Next stop was Lille.. a French city in the far north parts of France. Again.. we had only a short time to poke around. Again.. nothing really noteworthy to photograph.. but I got a few in nonetheless.

We stopped in Amiens next. This time we had a plan! I have Lonely Planet ebooks on my netbook. We looked at the map of Amiens and noticed there was a monument for Jules Verne near the station. We made a dash up the hill to a small park to take a snap and then raced back to the station to board our final train to Paris.

We arrived into Paris at 7:20pm.. well actually 19H20 as the French would have it. We had to make a decision whether to spend 1.50 euros and take the Metro to the station nearest our hostel.. or to be cheapskates and walk the 2km. Alas.. we chose option 2 once again.

It was a long and rather warm walk (and mostly uphill) to our hostel. I was sweating so much I needed a shower as soon as I arrived. Our hostel.. The Plug-Inn.. is in what is basically the red light district of Paris. The Moulin Rouge is just around the corner. Sex shops.. strip clubs.. beggars.. shifty people trying to coax us into their bar for topless women for only 5.50 euros.. drinks on the house.. hang on.. free entry now?? We walked away from that one as quickly as we could!!

Anyways.. after half a sixer of Leffe bier (8.5% alc. Belgium beer) and a yummy Mousse Au Chocolat (Guess what that is? It's not hard ;D) I'm ready for bed. It's after midnight and we have a VERY big day ahead of us.. All the best of Paris is one day! Some would say it isn't possible. They are probably right.

We'll see..
