We trudged on down I-40 but slowed down to a crawl a few miles before a very bad accident. There must have been 100 backed up truckers. We finally made it to Winslow, Az as you can see by some of the pictures. For those of you who don't remember or forgot....that is the town mentioned in the Eagles 1972 hit Take it Easy. That applies to our trip. Great song, great trip so far.
We decided to cut down Hwy 77 to Show Lo which was a great place my brother Ronn and I camped at back in 09. We got there and it was of course snowing so Quinci woosed out and wouldn't camp saying the only one who would do it besides me would be Ronn.....but I said hey, Marty would do it without a tent or sleeping bag..so once again we drove through snow, high wind and arrived in Socorro....with dinner at a local brewery and my buzz was real nice after two great local beers....one a pale ale and the other an India pale ale.
What stop would be complete without a visit to the local Walmart---just to walk off dinner since outside it was a 50mph wind. And now we head towards Roswell, home of the 1947 supposed flying saucer crash. At first the newspaper of the time indicated it was a UFO but later after a thorough investigation (ie. cover-up), it was said to be a weather balloon....we shall see...stay tuned for our thorough investigation. I hear Twilight Zone music in my head.
