Where I stayed
We joined our tour group in New York and it turned out there were 4 buses doing the same tour – mostly Australians. The drive to Boston was one of the shorter trips on the tour. I'm not sure that the Australians fully understood the historical significance of this city – it is where the Revolutionary War began and the place where the “colonies” declared their independence from England. So for me, an American by birth, the names and locations were very familiar to my ears. This was one of the days I was most looking forward to as we saw where the Declaration of Independence was first publicly read, where the first battles of the Revolution took place and the location of the “Boston Tea Party” where the early settlers protested the high taxes imposed by the British by masquerading as Indians and dumping about a million dollars worth of tea off a ship into the waters of the Boston harbor. We also saw where the Battle of Bunker Hill took place, and the famous warship the USS Constitution or “Old Ironsides”.
