Well, tomorrow is our departure day!  Max and I are both saying it will be a relief to finally go.  This trip has required a huge amount of planning - both for being away from home for 3 months and for our US itinerary.

We knew that we would have to be flexible because of the state of my parent's health - especially my mother. As it turns out my mother's health has deteriorated rapidly over the last few days. She has just come out of intensive care and is currently in the cardiac care unit of a local hospital.  At this point she and the rest of the family are looking at palliative care / hospice options for her.

(For those who know her you will find updated information about her condition at the following web site:   www.caringbridge.org/visit/lizmulhearn )

So, we are returning at exactly the right time...  my sister Colleen lives near my parents, my sister Maureen has arrived from the North Carolina and Elizabeth (Maureen's daughter) and her husband have also flown in from Louisiana. We hope she will be able to come home soon where she will be cared for by family and nursing staff.

In this blog I will probably try to focus mostly on our trip, though if you are interested in my mother's health feel free to have a look at the CaringBridge site.

PS.  Honey has been a very naughty girl!  I have been very careful to keep all Easter chocolate out of her reach, but this afternoon I noticed a small chocolate bilby missing off the bed where I was packing - I found the foil wrapper in the back yard.  (It was the second thing she pinched out of my bag, but I caught her the first time when she bolted out of our bedroom with something in her mouth and a guilty look in her face!)  We have a housesitter who will take good care of Honey - she's got a "book" of instructions we have written out for her!
