We now look back at our second visit to Guam. The first stay was marked by cosiness and attention to our interests, the second stay was quite different. We stayed at the Westin Hotel - one of many large hotels along the 'hotel strip' of Tumon Bay. The Westin, however, did not
live up to its reputation. We found it to be primarily oriented towards the masses of Japanese tourists, often leaving our questions answered. Naturally we enjoyed the beautiful beach, the clear water of Tumon Bay, the good restaurants and the many shopping malls. We went diving
in the Blue Hole of Guam, we visited the famous Jeff's Pirate Cove near Talofofo and were photographed at the gate of the massive Andersen Air Force Base. There are also some very good reefs to snorkel, right from the beach.

Guam aims for Japanese business. We encountered many Japanese on the island, often wearing the most trendy outfits and shopping for the most luxurious brands. The fact that Guam has a tropical climate has no effect on the Japanese tourists, who wear their designer jeans anywhere. Since Josephine has blond hair and blue eyes, her picture was taken many, many times. We found Japanese tourists to be fascinating, because they have such a different approach to holidays than we are used to in the West. Also, they love the many wedding chapels along the coast and are incredibly polite.

In Guam we spent most time shopping and eating, simply because these are the main attractions of the island. We tried all the famous meals of all the famous restaurants: TGI Friday's, the Guam Hard Rock Cafe and many of the good Japanese restaurants. Again and again Josephine attracted attention from staff and guests by showing off, dancing and smiling to all people in the vicinity. Dining with her is great. Once again we were very lucky with the beautiful sunsets of Guam. In particular the sunset pictures with the canoes are worth a glance.
After Guam we traveled to Manila for a short stopover. Although we only saw a fraction of this city of 32 million souls, we experienced the chaos, smog and rushing Filipino's everywhere. We loved the extensive breakfast buffet at the Manila Sofitel - probably the best we ever had. To us this seemed like a fitting end to a long holiday. At Schiphol Airport we were welcomed by Inge, greeting us with a warm welcome in the cold Dutch weather.

Enclosed is a view from our living room in Amsterdam - rain and mist included. Nevertheless, it's good to be back.
