On Friday we spent the morning in Nara, one of the centers of religions life in Japan. In Nara, there are free range deer EVERYWHERE! You can buy special crackers to feed them, although they eat the paper the crackers come in too, so I don't think they are picky eaters. We spent some time feeding the deer, who are very friendly and nice, and taking lots of pictures. Once again, we were the subject of English practice. I was interviewed by two different groups of students from Doshisha International Junior High School for their English class projects.
The biggest attraction in Nara is Todaiji Temple, which houses the largest statue of Buddha in Japan. I'll have to let the pictures do the explaining, but I don't think that anything short of standing beneath that Buddha could really do the site justice.
