What I did
Praia das Catedrais

Our principal interest in this area is the Rías Altas, and compare them to the lovely Rías Baixas that we had visited earlier from Santiago. The weather is quite changed here, misty and cool. This gives us a completely different view of the coastline, as you will see in the photos. The beaches are wonderful, but with less indentation the waves are stronger. We try the water and it's still not as cold as Portugal, which we find somewhat strange.

The highlight of the visit are the amazing views of Praia das Catedrais (Cathedral Beach) at low and high tide. We are fortunate to experience both. At low tide we can walk amongst the striking cliff formations. At high tide you must see them from the cliffs above.

Low tide on the first day is at 9:30, so we want to get there early. We ask for breakfast at 8:00 am.

"Breakfast is served from 9:00 am" is the brusque reply.

“We may as well go to the supermarket and get some supplies for a picnic lunch” suggests Miryam.

Just down the block is an Eroski Supermarket with underground parking. We descend into the depths and the lights go on as the car movement is detected. It seems pretty empty. I park, exit, and the lights go off. Its pitch black and no waving of arms will turn on the lights again. We finally struggle out into daylight to find that the supermarket only opens at 9:30am. Boy, this sure is a laid-back town!

In spite of this, Ribadeo is a lively little town, as is the much larger town of Foz nearby. We also take a drive inland to visit Mondoñedo and Vilaba. The countryside of Galicia is beautiful, green and fertile, looking almost like the Devon and Cornwall.
