After a Swiss continental breakfast, the group set off on a leisurely stroll along the edge of the lake to explore the town and admire the views of Lake Geneva. The girls delighted in shopping opportunity and sampled the local cuisine. The Montreux Jazz Festival is held every year on the lake's edge. A myriad of small stalls selling food, drinks and souvenirs tempted the girls as they worked out the lay of the land. Then it was back to the home base for dinner and, of course, rehearsals. The staff and girls were wondering how the Barbershop group had fared back in Llangollen, but not enough to stay and greet them on their late arrival : (
Llangollen
The girls sang particularly well against much older and more experienced competition. They did well to be scored higher than a choir of much older men who had seemed very confident of surpassing the MNLC girls. They were certainly the prettiest of all the choirs.
Then it was a quick change into travelling gear and lunch before boarding our bus for the trip to Manchester Airport. The girls grabbed a snack for the plane and before long we were up, up and away to Zurich, where we landed well into the night. Luckily the coach was waiting for us and we set off for Montreux. Everyone curled up and went to sleep and the next thing we knew we were pulling up outside our Youth Hostel. No-one was there to greet us so we stumbled around in the dark finding light switches and door numbers on the third floor. Hauling those suitcases up three flights of stairs was no fun at 1.30 am!! However, the girls who had arrived earlier had made up our beds, which was much appreciated : )
