As we packed up that night so that we would be ready to leave early in the morning, I started thinking about the quirky memories I would have from this trip.

I thought about Andrew, looking like a prospector with a teenage girl's backpack on.

We laughed about the guy who had packed in a watermelon.

The mystery of the missing peanuts from the trail mix bag and the culprit we discovered later, a black bird that came back for seconds.

I thought of the lizards that had kept watch on our camp and the squirrel we caught rummaging through our neighbor's bag.

The candle lanterns that I lit five hours too early came to mind.

I chuckled, thinking of us looking for my flint before we left and buying a $1 plastic sand toy to use as a poo trowel.

Staging and restaging photos using rocks as tripods.

I couldn't believe the crazies that left at 1 a.m.

And I remembered tripping and falling, nearly tumbling down the hillside.

Pooing in a hole.

People hopping off the helicopter, having a smoke, and hopping on a horse.

Living off of beef jerky and Cliff bars.

All on this one short adventure.
