Continuing north took us over the two major glaciers, Fox and Franz Josef. We have previously seen many glaciers, but not one that flows into a rain forest onto a coastal plain. We walked from the Tasman shore through the rain forest up to the base of the glacier. It was rather amusing to watch the paid guides rigged out with backpacks, gaiters, mountain walking sticks, leading ant like trails of Japanese tourists all in matching waterproof coats when we, like most others, were in shorts and T shirts.
