With Sydney and New Year drawing ever closer, we headed south to Brisbane shopping (only K could buy some UGG sheepskin boots in this heat) and then onto Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. Our route down took us through the Mary Valley which looked more like Switzerland than the Australia we had seen so far. We took advantage of some free camping, though the amenities were a little sparse. One of the great things about Oz is how every park, esplanade and camping area has spotlessly clean toilets and free electric BBQs.

It is quite remarkable how rubbish and graffiti free Australia is compared to UK and that includes the towns and cities.
