'Big Fury' is not as a result of K’s lack of field skills and det drills while living in the bush, it is in fact the name of the beast in the first picture. Living as we are at the moment has prompted many fond military memories of my mentor Richie A. I am sure Rich would have rewarded K’s slack drills with daily pan bash and other suitable fizzers.  I don’t think Rich would have ever allowed a hair dryer, hot brush and curling tongs (all unused), in a day sack, when the average daily temperature is over 100 especially when there is nowhere to go out.

With hair electricals removed (and replaced with water) we drove into Airlie Beach to board ‘Big Fury’ and take a day tour around the Whitsunday Islands .  Whitsunday Island is the largest of the 74 islands in the Whitsunday Group. It is uninhabited, but is known particularly well for the 7 kilometre stretch of pristine, white, soft, silica sand called Whitehaven Beach. This magnificent sand, which is 99.89% pure quartz, was mined in 1960 to sell to Japan for glass making. However, this practise has since stopped, and the area is now protected for M&K to enjoy a lazy afternoon.
