VICTORIA!!!!! Good god, never seen anything like THAT before (for all my sheltered american friends, we are talking about the World Cup here! haha) but to begin, I have successfully made it to Sorrento and god bless the amalfi coast, I have found paradise. I could stay here for weeks, but alas, time is a tickin. My first night was relaxing and I chatted with my two aussie roommates Alex and Alice. I woke up early the next day and headed to Pompei...So great. It was really great and surreal to see it all, although 4 hours in the hot sun was plenty! So afterwards I decided to make the trek up Vesuvius. The bus takes about an hour, with a minor pit stop to talk to this 55 year guy who has lived on or near Vesuvius is entire life, needlesness to say, a hilarious guy...so then the bus takes you but what seems like most of the way, however then you must trek up 45 minutes to reach the top. In flip flops, on a dirt road going upwards was not the greatest, but what a reward when I made it! Looking straight down into the crater was not something I thought I would ever do...there were definetely a few moments as I climbed I up that i thought, "why am I voluntarily climbing up to the top of an active volcano?" but i love love loved it!

As soon as I got back the girls were waiting for me and we quickly got ready and headed out for the main event: Italia vs. Francia. We were starving and decided to sit at a restaurant that had no tv and find one later, however halfway through our meal they magically brought out a big screen and placed it directly in front of us! Luck was on our side! So we watched the game in the main square of sorrento, with about 10 other bars within sight, so it was fairly intense! Looking around through the game, and during the final shoot out, I have never seen so many people so quiet and tense...Zidane's head butt was met with SERIOUS reaction! haha The big win was incredible! Immediately fireworks were set off in about 5 different locations and we were consistently sprayed with champagne, people were passing around mini kegs with "viva italia" on the sides, there was an abundance of illegal fireworks being set off from makeshift boxes, flags galor, seriously I have never seen anything like that before. We were LOVING it! We topped the evening off with a celebritory gelato (Nutella flavoured! mmmm) and the insanity quieted down around 3am...what a win!

Today Alex and I spent the afternoon sunning ourselves in Amalfi, while Alice rested and recovered from a bad burn the day before. It feels so great to be out of the cities and by the water! I love life! (a la Jess Traub)

More to come from Ischia...
xoxo
