The last few days have been quite busy in London and now Sweden.

Monday I headed up to visit Eric at Oxford. He had just arrived that morning and was quite tired but we walked all around the city. His college, Lincoln, is quite small and he lives in a nice little dorm right across the street from the main gate. He's going to have a fantastic time I'm sure...we had a nice dinner at an Indian place called Chutney's and then I headed back to London...he needed to get some sleep

Ashley and her friend Stephanie arrived mid-day Tuesday and spent the afternoon riding on the open-top double decker bus in London. I roamed the streets being tempted by all of the sales going on all through Knightsbridge, Mayfair and St. James. Harrod's even had some bargains...

That evening we went to see Mama Mia' and it was quite fantastic. I had some hesitations going into it...I mean, how much ABBA can one deal with in a sitting...but it really had a cute storyline and the music fit in quite well.

Steph left early the next morning and Ashley and I set out to cover as much of London as possible. She hadn't been before so after getting a good idea of what she wanted to cover during the bus tour the day before we set out to see the Tower of London, climb St. Paul's Cathedral, take a river cruise to Greenwich and straddle the Prime Meridian, see the changing of the guards, see Westminster Abbey, view the Saatchi Gallery, have dinner in Notting Hill and last but not least...find this skirt that Ash wanted at H & M. I'm proud to say that we accomplish all of those but Westminster (damn thing closes at 3:45) and the changing of the guard. The skirt hunt was not successful, but H & M was visited, so that counts...

Our trip to Stockholm yesterday was nothing short of miserable. I officially despise Ryan Air...well not really. But it is quite frustrating...you do get what you pay for. We had to wake up at 5ish...be at the bus stop at 6ish, Ash had to pay extra for her bags, the flight arrived in "Stockholm" (I'm using quotes since the airport was an hour and a half away) and then had to take a long bus ride to the city.

When we finally arrived we made our way to the boat hostel; which was located right off the Gamla Stan (old town) at the beginning of Sodermalm. Sodermalm is a little lower key, younger and more fun, with more bars and restaurants than the touristy Gamla Stan. Our "quarters" (we are on a ship) we quite cramped, but we had a four-person room all to ourselves and hopefully it will stay that way.

Another fellow med student, Andy Powers, is also in Stockholm visiting his cousins, so we met up for dinner and found this nice little Thai/Viking/Tiki bar on the other side of Sodermalm. After we met up with his cousins and went to an interesting (and loud) Reggae Bar...a LOND DAY!

Today Ashley is off on her own. I headed to the Vasamuseet...quite a spectacle. A 17th century Swedish War ship that sunk in the harbor 1200 meters into it's maiden voyage was preserved in the waters of the Baltic for 300 years before it was raised, re-constructed and housed in this museum. You can walk all around this massive ship and hopefully you can see from the pictures how amazing it is (it was very dark...)

I also wandered upon a nice little cafe in the Norrmalm (new city) region of Stockholm that I'm sitting at right now (scammed free internet from someone's apartment :-)). A nice Iranian family owns the place and I've ended up talking to the daughter Leila for a while. She is finishing up Dental school and hopes to be an oral surgeon one day (Uncle Dave take note). She just returned from a trip to San Diego and loves to travel to the USA. We had some interesting discussions about Iran and travelling...it was quite nice :-)

Tonight we are meeting up again with Andy as well as another WSU Med Student, Erin to have dinner...it's our last night!

Catch ya on the flip side on last time,
- M & A
