The camping experience involved getting up with the early light so we hit the road from Stromstad by 8:30 AM towards Oslo on the E6. We had a bit of early trouble when we hit a toll both after the Norway border sans Norwegian kroner. We headed back to a mall we saw the exit back and took out some Nkr and headed back on the road. The detours continued as we pulled off the E6 a bit early and took small, windy side roads most of the way to Oslo. Once we caught up with the E16 we were off towards Flam and the Sognefjord region of Norway.

Our journey took about eight hours total and along the way we passed some beautiful views. Words really cannot describe so you'll have to look at some of the pictures instead.

A few of the cool things included seeing the change in flow of the rivers from east to west as we crossed over the tree line and back down near Fagernes, seeing the Stavkyrkje Borgund (Borgund Stave Church from the 17th century) and heading into the worlds longest tunnel connecting Laerdal and Aurland (24.5 Km!).

The village of Flam sits at the base of the Aurlandsfjorden and is very tiny. After figuring out some logistics for the next few days at the tourist office, we set up camp in a valley surrounded by amazingly beautiful peaks just off the small river feeding the fjord. The village is pretty touristy and thus it shuts down early. We found a little café by the water, had some dinner and then took off for an evening 3 km hike up to Berkkenfossen falls. It was a pretty taxing hike, but as you can see from the some of the pictures, the view was quite beautiful. We were pretty wiped after the hike (granted it was 10 PM, although with all the light it looked like 5 PM) so we had some tea and took it easy the rest of the evening.

Catch ya on the flip side,
