Where I stayed
We woke this morning and headed south to the town of Como at the base of the Lake. There is a funicular ride to a hilltop town called Brunate and we saw some beautiful views of the Lake and the town below. We had a nice lunch lakeside and headed south to Milan where our hotel and our car rental return were awaiting us.
Interestingly, we had no clear directions to our hotel and with my dear mother driving stick shift (for the first time since her 20's when she famously owned a blue mustang with a white convertible top) it made for a comedic, knuckle-whitening experience. With two maps in hand, a couple of close calls with trolleys and some misdirectional driving on one-way streets we made it to our hotel in one piece and had a nice, incidental tour of Milan.
We spent the evening strolling the deserted streets of Milan, since most Milanese leave the city for the month of August, its a relaxed, calm atmosphere and will be a very pleasant place to spend the next day.
I now will post pictures for the last two weeks.
Miss you all,
Melissa
