Flag of Italy  , Italian Riviera,
Friday, August 6, 2010

It's my second day in Cinque Terre and myself, and another Australian took the ferry up the Italian Rivera from Santa Margherita to Portofino. This village was a popular Hollywood hangout in the 1950's, Humphrey Bogart and Rex Harrison frequented it's shores often. We arrived by boat to the harbor and I ate the best peach of my life from a fruit stand on the main cobblestoned street. We then walked up to the Brown Castle and happened upon a gallery and museum of black and white photos taken of all the famous visitors to Portofino in the 1950s and 1960s.
We then wandered along the cliff road, down to the sea to swim and found out that the house just above the beach belonged to Dolce and Gabbana, it was supposed to be private, but as the Italians described it, they don't listen to the law, they do what they want.
We then took the ferry back and had a nice dinner at the port of RioMaggiore, the biggest village in Cinque Terre. I'll be in Genoa tomorrow and will hopefully be able to upload pictures.
Miss you all,
Melissa
