Coastal Bulgaria (talked about in the previous travel-log) was incredible from an economic, social and cultural perspective... however, visually, was a let down. So after combing the coast in an unsuccessful attempt to find our hidden beach, we beelined for the inland mountains to a little town called Veliko Turnovo.

This town is awesome. It is an S-shaped town that lies atop a steep valley cutout by the rivers below. The city snakes along the ridgeline, following the river... and EVERY house, parking space and bathroom for that manner, has an incredible view. Its high in the mountains, so the weather is somewhat cooler. The town is guarded by the largest fortress we have seen and has an abundance of amazing, working orthodox monasteries surrounding it... equally important - very few tourists.

We spent our time, exploring the city, eating like royalty (for almost no money), visiting monasteries and hiking up rivers and caves. If you find yourself in this region of the world come see this town. Hurry, as I'm sure the salivating coastal investors will find it soon enough!
