Under the Tuscan Sun.... We figure we'd get a few female reads with that title.... We left Chinque Terra and after a short stop in Portovenere, beelined for Verona, Italy. Verona is actually about 300 miles north of Tuscany... but the landscape leading up to the town does look like what was shown in the movie. Rolling hills, family vineyards everywhere, antique atmosphere... after the town - the Italian Alps. O.K. - The Italian Alps don't get enough notoriety: This was one of the most beautiful drives either of us have ever done. Rugged, jagged snow capped mountains atop grey cliffs towering over a gradual green slope with little ski villages below.... amazing.
The city: Verona is the town where the true Romeo and Juliet escapade went down.... Its a romantic city with a nice big square, a large coliseum (third largest Arena in the world)... by the way, off topic ---> as you travel you realize every place has the x largest, y longest z biggest castle, bridge, gorge, canyon, arena, etc... I'd love to see the measurements... or definition of an Arena....
Anyway, we were not in Verona to sip casually on wine while watching the sun slowly set.... Italy was playing Ukraine in the World Cup and Verona was the largest city (defined as most people) between Chinque Terra and Innsbruck, Austria. We've seen Germany, France, Spain, and the US's worldcup festivities... Italy, you're up!
